Chesapeake Bay & Curly Coated Retriever

Both, the Curly Coated Retriever and the Chesapeake Bay Retriever are quite old but rare breeds.

The Chesapeake Bay Retriever, coming originally from Maryland USA, is a hard working breed with a lot of stamina. He got beauty and brain. Chessies are highly intelligent. Some people tend to say that they are stubborn, but that's mostly because they are very independent. Chesapeakes are easy to train and eager to work - when you know how to handle them.  Chessies need a job: Either hunting, mantrailing, search & rescue or dummy training, they can excel in a lot of domains. So most Chesapeakes don't suit as only pet dogs and need handlers with experience.

The Curly Coated Retriever, being the oldest retriever breed, is very rare nowadays. With his distinctive coat, he directly catches someone's eye. Curlies are very elegant dogs and with a shoulder height up to 70 cm, they get quite big. Curlies are clowns when being surrounded by their family. They are easy to train and love to go in for some adventures with their humans. Curly Coated can excel in a lot of domains from dummy, to hunting, to search & rescue or therapy/assistant dog. Unlike most Chesapeakes, most Curly Coated Retrievers can live as only pet dogs. They can - not they should. Nevertheless, Curlies do best with owners with knowledge.

Both breeds can be very protective and aloof, therefore they need a lot of early socialization and education.
